BlinkLab is excited to announce a new study initiated by Wim Hof. Also known as “The Iceman”, Wim Hof is a Dutch athlete and motivational speaker with numerous world records. These records include running a barefoot half marathon above the Artic circle and hiking up Kilimanjaro in shorts. Wim Hof attributes these achievements to the Wim Hof Method. This method consists of three core principles namely breathing, cold therapy and commitment.
The Wim Hof breathing method will be the focus of this study. Participants will be randomly allocated into groups, one of which will be taught the Wim Hof breathing method. Participants will undergo neurobehavioral testing using the BlinkLab app before and after training. Responses to these tests will be analysed to determine potential effects of the Wim Hof breathing method on brain processes. These include attention, alertness, learning and memory function as well as brain adaptation mechanisms. In this way, we can use well- established neurobehavioral tests to scientifically evaluate the Wim Hof Method.
We are looking forward to working with Wim and exploring how his Method could affect the human brain.
